Most Viewed K-Pop Videos in America & Around the World: March 2015:
YouTube viewers were looking for something sweet last month when it came to their K-pop.
Despite being relative newcomers on the scene, Red Velvet's "Ice Cream Cake" wound up as the most viewed K-pop video in America and around the world on YouTube for March 2015. The girl group took the top slot in both our monthly rankings while their "Automatic" visual ranked in the Top 6 on both. Typically, veteran acts reign over these monthly lists with the likes of 4Minute, G-Dragon and Taeyang recently topping the rankings. To find a comparable chart-topper, we have to go back to April 2014 when rookie boy band HIGH4 and young duo Akdong Musician were No. 1.
Elsewhere on the chart, EXO and miss A, remarkably, land high-charting entries despite both vids being available for less than three days, further showing high global attention for their respective comebacks. miss A's "Only You" dropped on March 29, ranks at No. 5 in both America and the international list. Meanwhile EXO's "Call Me Baby," released on March 30, flies to No. 2 in America and No. 3 globally while its Chinese version, released the same day, ranks at Nos. 6 and 7 respectively
Another remarkable note comes from how many entries K-pop super label SM Entertainment has on March's chart. The company's acts (which include Girls' Generation, TVXQ!, f(x)) occupy five out of the 10 slots on each ranking via Red Velvet's two videos, EXO's two videos along with "Growing Pains" from Super Junior-D&E. Interestingly enough, Xia (whose new single "Flower" is at No. 9 in the U.S. and No. 10 around the world) used to be under SM as a member of TVXQ! until he and two of his band mates filed a lawsuit against the company in 2009 over contracts. The SM dominance proves how much of a stronghold the company has over the scene and well accepted their acts tend to be among international audiences, or at least when it comes to YouTube viewers.
Ga In also sees her sexy "Dark Paradise" video rank very high. PSY's "Gentleman" video co-star ranks at No. 3 in America and No. 2 internationally -- even beating out EXO in the international YouTube view battle. The singer's sexy video stirred up controversy when it was banned from being performed on certain TV stations in her native Korea, but that couldn't keep away the YouTube viewers.
