Rolling Stones to Issue Rare 1971 Club Concert on Video:

In addition to celebrating their 1971 masterpiece Sticky Fingers, the Rolling Stones will release a concert film of a London club gig they played the year that record came out. The release, From the Vault: The Marquee – Live in 1971, will be available on DVD, Blu-ray and digitally June 23rd, with some configurations featuring numerous Stones rarities.

The band performed the gig a few months before the release of Sticky Fingers and used the show to preview nearly half the album, including "Brown Sugar," "Dead Flowers" and "Bitch." It also served as the first and only time the group played "I Got the Blues" live until dusting it off a handful of times for concerts in 1999. For the rest of the eight-song set, the band played two songs from its then-most recent release, Let It Bleed ("Live With Me" and "Midnight Rambler"), "Satisfaction" and a cover of Chuck Berry's "Let It Rock." The gig also marked the last time the band would play the U.K. for more than two years, with its members going into tax exile shortly thereafter.

The video release also offer two alternate versions each of "I Got the Blues" and "Bitch," as well as the band's performance of "Brown Sugar" on Top of the Pops in 1971. The band has yet to reveal where the different versions came from, but said it is tied into the recently announced deluxe Sticky Fingers reissue.

Originally filmed for United States TV, the master films for the release have reportedly been languishing in an attic for nearly two decades. The footage has since been restored and the audio remastered; the DVD and SD Blu-ray releases feature 5.1 surround sound audio. The release will be available as standalone DVD and SD Blu-ray releases, as well as a DVD paired with a CD and a DVD paired with an LP (though the vinyl does not contain the bonus tracks listed below).

The group will be putting out the Sticky Fingers deluxe edition, which will contain alternate versions of the group's songs, in May. That same month, it will also embark on a U.S. stadium tour. Mick Jagger recently told Rolling Stone that he was toying around with the idea of playing the LP in its entirety on the trek, but was concerned there were too many slow songs. But even if the Stones don't play it on this tour, there might still be time, as Jagger told Rolling Stone earlier this week that he wasn't even considering retirement.
