Kanye West is the subject of a lengthy profile in the New York Times' T Magazine, and -- as there always is when West grants a lengthy interview -- there's much to parse through with respect to his thoughts on fame, family and fashion.

Fashion is the focus of the piece, with writer Jon Caramanica highlighting West's ongoing quest to obtain legitimacy in the high-fashion world. Of course, as is typical, when he discusses his goals he's prone to statements that both hit valid points ("They classify my motivational speeches as rants!") and challenge even his more ardent defenders to make sense of.

1. "It's literally like . . . I know this is really harsh, but it's like Before Yeezy and After Yeezy. This is the new Rome!"" -- on his arrival in the fashion world

2. "I want to dress like a child as much as possible." -- on his personal style

3. "There's a transition. I need to partake in what's of value and of quality and soul in order to understand it, in order to give it back." -- on why he's currently wearing designer clothing when his goal is to bring high fashion to the masses

4. "I dreamed, since I was a little kid, of having my own store where I could curate every shoe, sweatshirt and color," he said. "I have sketches of it. I cried over the idea of having my own store." -- on his fashion dreams

5. "I have this table in my new house. They put this table in without asking. It was some weird nouveau riche marble table, and I hated it. But it was literally so heavy that it took a crane to move it. We would try to set up different things around it, but it never really worked. I realized that table was my ego. No matter what you put around it, under it, no matter who photographed it, the douchebaggery would always come through." -- on a parable for his ego
